What we install

Why layout and prep decide how tile holds up

The part of a tile job you never see is the part that fails first when it is skipped. A good-looking floor over a bad substrate telegraphs every high and low spot, cracks grout lines, and works tile loose over time. Before any tile goes down, we check the substrate for flatness and level it where it needs it, so large-format and stone sit on a true plane instead of rocking.

In wet areas we waterproof behind the tile, not just on top of it. Showers get a proper waterproofing membrane behind the wall board and across the pan, sloped to the drain, so water that gets through the grout has somewhere to go besides the framing. We plan movement and expansion gaps at walls, transitions, and long runs, and leave perimeter joints where they belong instead of grouting tile tight to a wall and letting it crack.

Grout is a decision, not an afterthought. We match grout type and joint width to the tile and the location, so a shower floor, a backsplash, and a large-format entry each get what suits them. This invisible work is where H&H puts its attention, because it is what keeps the finished job flat, sealed, and quiet for years.

That is the difference on a tile job. Layout calls, cut lines, where a pattern breaks at a wall, how a niche lines up with the field tile, these get made by one set of hands with a reason behind them. We are a newer company and we run it that way on purpose, because it is the only way to keep the standard where we want it.

How long does a bathroom or a floor take?+
It depends on the size, the tile, and whether wet-area waterproofing is involved, but most single bathrooms run a handful of working days once demo is done, and a standard floor is often quicker. Waterproofing and thinset need to cure before the next step, so a shower cannot be rushed without risking the whole job. When Alberto quotes your project, he gives you a realistic day count for that specific space instead of a blanket number.
Do you demo the old tile first?+
Yes. We handle removal of old tile, backer, and the wet-area layers when needed, and we check what is underneath before new tile goes down. Old work often hides an unlevel substrate or failed waterproofing, and catching that during demo is what keeps the new tile from repeating the same problems. Demo scope is spelled out in your quote so nothing is a surprise.
Do you supply the tile or do I buy it?+
Either works. Plenty of homeowners pick their own tile because they want a specific look, and we are glad to install what you have chosen. We can also point you toward the right material and coverage for your layout so you order enough, including the overage you need for cuts and pattern work. Just tell us which way you want to go when we quote.
Do you waterproof showers?+
Yes, and we treat it as the core of the job, not an add-on. A shower gets a waterproofing membrane behind the wall board and across the pan, with the pan sloped to the drain so water always has a path out. That is the layer that protects your framing and subfloor, and it is exactly the invisible work that separates a shower that lasts from one that leaks in a couple of years.
Do you do natural stone?+
Yes. We install marble, travertine, slate, and similar stone, and we handle it for what the material needs rather than treating it like porcelain. Stone can need sealing, careful cutting, and attention to how it takes water and stains, especially in a shower or on a floor. We walk you through the upkeep so you know what owning that stone actually involves.
What drives the cost of a tile job?+
The biggest factors are the size of the area, the tile itself, the amount of prep, and the layout. Large-format and natural stone take more leveling and slower setting, patterns like herringbone add cutting and waste, and any wet area adds waterproofing and pan work. Demo of old tile and fixing whatever is underneath also affects the number. Alberto looks at your actual space and gives you a quote built on those factors, not a guess.
